Weaver Eggs is proud to announce that the James N. Gamble Montessori High School in Cincinnati – a participating school in the Agriculture Education Foundation – was named a U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon School. Only 27 schools across the nation received this award, which honors innovative efforts to reduce environmental impact and utility costs, improve health and wellness, and ensure effective sustainability education.
Weaver Eggs is a long-standing supporter of social and environmental education initiatives in local schools. This achievement by Gamble Montessori High School is applauded and reinforces the importance of our work with the Agriculture Education Foundation.

U.S. Department of Education Names Gamble Montessori High School as One of 27 Green Ribbon Schools in Nation
The U.S. Department of Education announced today that Gamble Montessori High School is one of 27 schools nationwide and the only school in Ohio selected as a 2021 U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon School. Gamble Montessori High School is the first Ohio public school to be a U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon recipient.
“This award acknowledges your school’s commitment to sustainable practices. We commend your school for its leadership in facilities, health and environmental education. Your school is representative of promising practices to improve achievement and equity, not only for aspiring green schools, but for all schools,” said Andrea Suarez Falken, director, U.S. Department of Education, Green Ribbon Schools.
“The work done by Gamble Montessori High School is a wonderful example of the academic and operational innovation and leadership happening each day at Cincinnati Public Schools. We know that green academics and practices, including being a good steward of the resources in our community, are critical components of educating the next generation of leaders. We are honored by this prestigious national designation by the U.S. Department of Education,” said Laura Mitchell, superintendent.
“I am incredibly proud of our students, teachers, staff, parents and community. We have infused respect and appreciation for the natural world into the Montessori based education we provide our students. This manifests in multiple ways, including through our Agricultural Education program, the gardens, orchards, and entrepreneurship that fuel our annual Montessori Market, and best in class water purification, smart lighting, and energy efficient facilities,” said Taylor Porter, principal of Gamble Montessori High School.
Students enrolled in the agriculture program have organized the annual Montessori Market, a farmer’s market event, with 40 local vendors selling fresh fruits, vegetables, candles and honey in the Westwood community. The successful event was most recently held last weekend.
Gamble Montessori High School moved to the site of the former Mercy High School in 2019 following extensive renovation of the building, including new windows and HVAC system, new electrical system and plumbing.
In March, Gamble High School was presented with a first place award from the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) and featured in the March issue of ASHRAE Journal.
Gamble Montessori High School will be recognized at a September 28 ceremony in Washington, D.C.
